The Trip

Here is the first half of the trip through the end of May, using Roadtrippers, a great website that allows us to plan the roadtrip and select cool things to do along the way.

  1. As you round the bend towards Chicago, I would highly recommend a quick swing through Michigan. We went to Torch Lake last summer (rated 3rd most beautiful lake in the world), it’s a spring fed lake that is crystal clear. And just a few hours from there is Mackinac Island which was awesome, no cars on the island, just horses and bikes (and fudge).

  2. Wow. Grand adventure. In 1969, March 1 through June 30, I did Miami FL, Fredericksburg VA, Gettysburg PA, Harpers Ferry WV, Spotsylvania VA, and finished at Fredericksburg VA for Part I. Then Atlanta GA, Arlington TX, El Paso TX, Las Cruces NM, Yuma AZ, San Diego CA, Tustin CA, San Jose CA, and Sacramento CA, for Part II. Reno NV, Salt Lake City UT and Chicago made part III. Toledo OH, Washington DC, Thomasville GA, and West Palm Beach FL made part IV, and I finished in Cocoa Beach, FL. Then I went into the US Army for about 3 years. Have great fun. The poetry still flies from those miles on my Vespa 145.

  3. HAPPY ST PATRICK’S DAY !
We’re glad your off on your big adventure. Sounds wonderful! But you did have a very big plate these past few months and particularly in the past week. So find some quiet time too.
Sat. 3-15, while you were catching a break in My Airy, we moved out of our timeshare at Cocao Beach and went and sat in the sunshine for an hour. Could not help but think of another camping journey many years ago with a number of children.
Auto train got in at 8:30 and we were home at 10:15. 3-17 – 7-8″ of snow. This was really a bit of comings and goings!
Have a good safe fun adventure.
    Love to all DadnMom

    1. Ashley – thanks for the tips. These are mind-bending! The Great Smoky Mountains were incredible. I am already trying to talk Jen into approaching Phoenix from the north from Albuquerque so we can see Antelope Canyon, AZ and maybe The Wave.

Zion, Bryce, Yosemite, and Yellowstone are on our list. Carlsbad is the week after next. Do you believe they have self-guided tours there?? Austin, TX is next week, so Hamilton Pool sounds amazing!

      Keep those suggestions coming!

    1. Michelle – we enjoyed very much the chance to visit with you as well, and are very happy to have you and Jennifer and Mike and the guys along!

      1. Enjoying the highlights of your travels! Maybe one day, when I grow up, I will have the chance to do this too! Ha! Safe travels to all!

  4. What a fun time seeing Jack and Jen after 15 years (at their wedding), and seeing my nephews for the first time. What a beautiful family! Enjoy the rest of your amazing adventure, and be safe. See you in June.
